WRC finds that recovery of training costs was unlawful deduction under the Payment of Wages Act 1991
Employers can only deduct money for training courses if it was agreed in the contract or in writing beforehand. Even then, the question of whether the employee elects to leave the organisation or is dismissed is important as this recent case shows.
