Retail Ireland Monitor June 2024

The inflation crisis is over, with the rate of price increases falling rapidly during the first half of the year. However, the recovery in many parts of retail is likely to be slow. Consumers, bruised by the cost-of-living concerns of the last year, remain cautious. Sentiment has dipped again for the fourth month in a row. We’re still ahead of this time last year, but only marginally. The further easing of interest rates in the coming months, along with real wage growth, should support stronger consumer spending as we move through the year, but recovery will take time.
