Government to review to Holyhead Port debacle

January 14, 2025

The Department of Transports is going to conduct a review of the Holyhead Port closure. It comes after a meeting on Thursday morning between ministers and representatives from a range of groups and organisations, including Dublin and Rosslare ports, Irish Rail, An Post, Ibec, the Small Firms Association and the Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA).

Eamon Ryan, the outgoing transport minister, as well as Minister of State James Lawless met with industry representatives to brief them about the situation. The group heard that it is expected that the port will be partially opened from the 16th of January. This follows extensive work carried out at political and official level in recent weeks to facilitate alternative freight capacity on Ireland to UK routes.
