Policy document on competitiveness

December 03, 2024

Ireland has some of the highest electricity prices in Europe which poses a major threat to business viability, future investment, and decarbonisation. Arising from this situation Ibec have published a document on boosting Irish competitiveness. More specifically the document contains various recommendations on reducing electricity prices. They are as follows:

  1. Accelerate the roll-out of low-cost renewable generation and storage technologies
  2. Remove network inefficiencies and develop a smart, dynamic, and connected national grid
  3. Support the electrification of heat, transport, and industry
  4. Introduce a strategic annual subvention of Transmission Use of System Charge (TUoS) charges and the Public Service Obligation (PSO) Levy and review the sustainability of the user charge model
