Drinks Ireland|Irish Whiskey has been active in lobbying (with spiritsEUROPE and others) to secure reductions in Canadian provincial levies/mark-ups on imported spirits. From 1 April 2021, the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) reduced their cost-of-service-differential on EU & UK spirits by 42%, while SAQ in Quebec will reduce their cost-of-service-differential on all imported spirits by 16.4% from 23 May.

These reductions come on foot of audits carried-out at the request of the EU under the terms of the CETA agreement.
