According to Ibec’s 2023 “Manufacturing in Ireland” report, 90% of companies agreed that sustainability is a priority for their business. Given this and impending reporting directives, the Engineering Skillnet launches our first Micro-credential in 2024 to help members pinpoint the initiatives that will lessen their environmental impact.
Specifically, this Micro-Credential puts the powerful tool of ‘Value Steam Mapping’ (VSM) into the hands of SME leaders to address their customer expectations.
Who should attend?:
SME leaders interested in making sustainability a priority with the benefit of a strategic approach, collaborative projects and a data-based method.
Focus group format:
Lean Business Partners will outline the overall goals of the programme, the standard elements and the collaborative learning approach. Inputs are welcome from members through facilitated discussion and breakout sessions to help identify their delivery preferences.
Benefits of this programme:
Mapping the energy impacts of a value chain is a useful starting point on a journey tp sustainability. With greater visibility, systems problems and non value-add activities are better understood and managed. The VSM method is versatile and can be used by individual companies with different characteristics in a variety of ways such as:
· To help kick-stsrt green transition initiatives.
· To get a picture of the types of energy used e.g. in production and the associated costs e.g. in production.
· To help plan/model changes that will improve energy management
· To set criteria for selecting an energy management system.
· To support green procurement and environmental reporting
· To explore if adopting the ISO5001 standard is feasible
· To prepare to adopt ISO5001
