Traditionally, much of the attention on ESG has focused on the environmental pillar given the challenges of climate change and due to the relative ease of measurement.

Research by BNP Paribas found that more than half (51%) of global institutional investors found social issues the most difficult to assess and integrate into their investment analysis.

There is, however, a growing focus on the “social” pillar, and the impact organisations have on employees, customers, suppliers and the community in which the organisation operates.  Social issues for consideration include:

  • Labour Practices
  • Employee Health & Safety
  • Employee Engagement, Diversity & Inclusion
  • Human Rights & Community Relations
  • Customer Privacy
  • Data Security
  • Access & Affordability
  • Product Quality & Safety
  • Customer Welfare
  • Selling Practices & Product
  • Labelling
  • Supply Chain Management
