High Court overturns Labour Court decision in Debenhams case
On 7 March, Mr Justice Anthony Barr of the High Court allowed key points of an appeal by Debenhams Retail Ireland (in liquidation) against a 2024 Labour Court decision which found that the company failed to comply with the consultation requirements in collective redundancy situations during the early days of the Covid pandemic.
In light of this, Debenhams Retail Ireland (in liquidation) will be allowed to appeal against last year’s decision by the Labour Court.
This ruling could have implications for nearly 800 similar cases brought forward by former Debenhams employees following the company’s insolvency and closure in 2020.
