Irish Medtech announces new Chair
Irish Medtech, the Ibec group representing the medtech sector, announced Jackie Murphy, Vice President, Manufacturing Plant Manager, Alcon Ireland, as its new Board Chair.
On accepting the position Jackie reflected that, “As the voice of the medtech industry with more than 250 members throughout the island of Ireland, Irish Medtech has an important role to play in promoting the sustainable development of this life changing industry. Not only does medtech save and transform lives, our sector is also an important regional employer with 48,000 direct employees across every county in Ireland. It is an honour to have this opportunity to lead the Board, and ensure Ireland continues to be recognised as one of the world’s leading medtech hubs.”
Dr Eoghan Ó Faoláin, Irish Medtech Director said, “Alcon is the largest eye care company in the world which has had a base in Ireland for over 30 years. The world-class site in Cork manufacturers intraocular lenses, which are used to replace the eye’s natural lens after cataract surgery, the most frequently performed surgical procedure in the developed world. Under Jackie’s leadership, Alcon Ireland has been growing the site’s capabilities with world-class technical, operations, customer experience and R&D teams now in place. I am looking forward to working with Jackie as she brings this wealth of experience to the role of Chair of Irish Medtech as we embark on the renewal of our industry strategy later this year.”
Jackie Murphy was elected Chair at the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) which took place in Limerick. Fionn Lahart, co-founder and CEO of LUMA Vision, was elected as Vice-Chair.
