CEO Update: Programme for Government analysis and supporting the all-island economy
Dear Member,
This week, having secured the support of nine independent TDs, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael published a draft Programme for Government.
Both the tone and approach align very closely with policy priorities outlined in Ibec’s General Election campaign ‘Electing for Business’.
To provide useful insights for our members, we have a developed an analysis document which gives an overview of:
- Key takeaways for business
- Ibec wins
- Opportunities for further influence
- Watch out issues
Though we are encouraged to see so many Ibec policy priorities reflected in the draft programme, ultimately, the programme is a statement of intent.
The draft agreement will have to be ratified by Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael members in the coming days and then the challenging work will begin to ensure that the Government delivers on these commitments.
As a respected and influential stakeholder, Ibec will play a vital part of this process ensuring that commitments are converted into tangible outcomes for our members.
To provide further insights on Programme for Government and a macro view of US Relations & Economic Outlook we are hosting a online session from 10.30 – 12.00 next Friday, 24 January 2025. The event will commence at 10:45 and you can attend here.
Ibec’s role as an important stakeholder in protecting and promoting Ireland’s and the all-island economy, was exemplified this week by the launch of a major new macroeconomic model for Northern Ireland and the all-island economy.
The project, sponsored by Ibec, was the first of its kind. It was undertaken by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) and the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) in London and is the culmination of a three-year research initiative on the all-island economy.
This model is critical to understanding the all-island economy and will support decision makers to take a more evidence-based approach to policy making impacting on Northern Ireland and the all-island economy. You can learn more about it here.
As always if you have any feedback, please let me know.
Best regards,
Danny McCoy
