Alexandra Thompson, Vice President - Project Management at FinTrU talks about the opportunity to work across a wide range of clients in the financial sector.
The opportunity to manage people and support them as they grow and evolve on their career paths. Over the past eight years with FinTrU, I have also been fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to work across a wide range of different projects and clients across the world.
In my current role, I am working as a Project Manager as part of the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Program for a Tier 1 Investment Bank based in New York. The topic of ESG is a major focus across the globe, not just in the Financial Services Industry, and is all about making a difference. As awareness and understanding around ESG is growing rapidly for governments, regulators, stakeholders and customers, its importance has never been more prevalent, making it an extremely exciting topic to be involved in.
FinTrU is committed to giving local talent the opportunity to work on the global stage with the largest international investment banks. FinTrU currently employs more than 1,200 people worldwide with offices across Belfast, Derry/Londonderry, Letterkenny and Dublin, as well as, London, Maastricht, Porto and New York. Darragh McCarthy (Founder & CEO) considers FinTrU as having a social purpose to create high-quality professional employment on the island of Ireland. FinTrU has always had a social purpose to not only provide high-quality employment, but to also be committed to social and environmental issues.
The Financial Services sector is a key contributor to Ireland’s economy. A strong financial services sector leads to economic growth and creates capital and liquidity in the market. The sector enables governments and companies to borrow money and access capital at low rates allowing them to designate investment to projects that benefit the country.
FinTrU’s mission statement is to empower our people to drive industry-disrupting, innovative solutions within financial services, making a positive contribution to global clients and local communities. At FinTrU, we work with our clients to design technology-enabled solutions to face the ongoing challenges of regulatory obligations. Our work protects the integrity of the securities market.
It is very rewarding to get the opportunity to build solutions and create value-adds for our clients, which in turn, can effectively improve how they operate on a daily basis.
Working in Financial Services enables you to gain a plethora of transferrable skills within a fast-paced environment. The sector also provides the opportunity to expand your knowledge on a wide range of industry topics, giving you the opportunity to learn something new every day.
At FinTrU, you feel valued as an employee and get the opportunity to contribute to help shape a fast-growing company. FinTrU cares deeply about its culture and places great focus on its company values: Partnership, Passion, People and Professionalism. FinTrU continuously encourages its staff to avail of external and internal training and qualifications to support employees’ professional growth and development. Recently, FinTrU supported me as I completed the TrU Delivery Project Management (TPM), FinTrU’s unique Project Management Qualification, which included both PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner exams, enabling me to develop new skills which I could bring to my current role.
Just do it!
I would strongly encourage anyone who is ambitious and looking for a unique and exciting career opportunity, regardless of degree background or experience, as there are opportunities within the sector for everyone. At FinTrU in particular, we offer a number of opportunities to anyone who wants to further develop within their career or is taking their first step into the Financial Services Industry.
