Business flags concerns that the proposed revision of the European Works Councils Directive poses significant threat to European companies’ competitiveness.
European Works Councils (EWCs) are information and consultation bodies that ensure that employees in companies with more than 1,000 employees operating in at least two EU or EEA countries are involved in decisions related to transnational issues. The proposed revision to the 2009 European Works Council Directive includes a new requirement for managements to wait until after they have responded to any opinion they receive from their EWCs before they may proceed with decision-making on their proposals.
