Join us for Ibec's 11th annual celebration of National D&I Day, which is taking place at Ibec, on 2 July. This event allows us to introduce a topic that helps us get right to the heart of diversity and inclusion and challenge ourselves to reflect on how inclusive our organisations really are.
We will celebrate the extensive, and necessary efforts we have made to create more equal and diverse workplaces for women and minority groups and consider if efforts to advance social progress have inadvertently excluded men. The over-arching theme of this event is, Modern masculinity: Shaping inclusive workplaces.
Men are more often discussed in inclusion conversations as allies or sponsors but they are less frequently included in the conversation with regards to their lived experiences, particularly if they are part of the majority in our workplaces. If we pigeonhole men as supporters of others and assume that male privilege benefits “all men” are we contributing to disenfranchisement? Has the absence of providing a safe and encouraging space for men to share lived experiences created a vacuum for new ideals of masculinity?
Themes as far reaching as language, mental health, extremism and radicalisation will be explored by a diverse host of experts and commentators from business, academia, community and voluntary and the arts.
